Teach Me

When I began working on the page, it was going to be a page to document my prayers for my grandsons as they started a new school year.  As I  studied the passage more and pondered over it, the Lord really began to speak to my heart that this should be a prayer for me as well.

Psalm 119 is one of the best passages dealing with being teachable and loving instruction, specifically the instruction of the Lord in and through His Word.

verse 11 "I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you."

My prayer was that the boys would recall the words of the Lord as they make choices throughout their day.

verse 15 "I will study your commandments and reflect on your ways."

I pray that they will know and remember God's commandments and directions for their lives and that they will think of God's ways as they make choices.

verse 23 "Even princes sit and speak against me, but I will meditate on your decrees."

When the times come that others don't treat them fairly with kindness, I pray they will think about the Lord would mediate on His Word and ask Him how He would have them handle those situations.

verse 28 "I weep with sorrow; encourage me by your word."

On the days that sadness creeps in, I pray that the love found in His word would brighten their heart.

verse 37 "Turn my eyes from worthless things and give me life through your word."

Whew, on the days when they are tempted to look at things they shouldn't, I pray Father, that your word will fill them instead.

verse 55 "I reflect at night on who you are, O Lord; therefore I obey your instructions."

In the afternoons and evenings as they talk to their parents about their day and they have their family devotion time, I pray that the truths they are taught and learn will lead them to obedience.

verse 114 "You are my refuge and my shield; your word is my source of hope."

My heart's cry for my grandsons, Lord, is that they will always know you are a place of refuge, protection, and that you always offer hope to them.

Through these few passages found in Psalm 119, the more I prayed for my boys to be teachable so they could learn these truths and live by them, the more the Lord spoke that this all applies to my life as well.

I encourage you to read through this Psalm and study it verse by verse.  It is a beautiful reminder of all that we are blessed with by reading, studying, learning, and trusting His word.

The Art behind the Story:

I had the sweet privilege of trying a new tool while creating this page.  The MISTI by My Sweet Petunia was so helpful in correct placement of my Sweet 'n Sassy Stamps as well as assuring that I got a good, even impression.

Here are a few photos of the process:
